My day trip to Buckingham Palace is a bit of a blurr. It is like when you meet a celebrity or something that seems too big to really grasp, almost dream like.
We all (amy, myself and the kids) woke up at 5am to catch a 3 hour bus from Nottingham to London, arriving at Victoria Station around 10am.. from there we walked right down the road to Buckingham Palace, turned a corner and there it was in all its glory..I had made it.
video below! please pardon the sweaty mess..and the short video..a lot of people around me!
We sat with the people and took pictures, looked around and then made our way to the side of the palace to wait for our inside tour. Sitting there we took a few pictures of each other and so forth, we were then approached by the Buckingham Palace security which asked us to show them each picture we had just taken and then delete them as they watched - Strict protocol, as this is a government building.. sigh..Being me, I snuck my camera out of my bag when I could attempt such an act and took a photo and a good one, the thrones, which you see below! Mwahahha.
Inside the palace was just as you would expect it.. full of culture and beauty.. it was almost surreal walking through the same halls that kings and queens of the past, world leaders of past and present, and most importantly.. her majesty Queen Elizabeth II does at present. The tour took about an hour and we saw 21 of the state rooms and a special exhibit of the Queens dresses through her reign of over 60 years. As we ended the end of the tour, we were directed towards the gardens of the palace in the rear.. at that point, Amy and I had tea and cakes, literally a foot from the palace.. it was so swanky..to say that I have had tea at Buckingham Palace and have it be true...
The day in London was a quick but magical day, I saw Big Ben and the Parliament from afar, We walked through Piccadilly Circus, the architecture was so beautiful.. we went to Harrods, took the underground here and there, then finishing our day up at a lovely little restaurant right across from Harrods. The evening had come and we had accomplished what we could with the time we had, making it back to our bus at 8pm to get home by midnight.
More to come! Until then, God Save The Queen!
Here is a short clip showing the Queens dresses that I saw:
